Newark Football - Introduction

Newark Youth London has a history of developing football talents and promoting them to mainstream football. We have been setting trends for local teams to follow.

  • We were the first Asian/Bengali team to play league football in 1988 – Abbey Gauge League. This opened the door for other local teams to play league football.
  • We were first team to go on tour on a tour in 1994 to Bangladesh. This again opened the door for other teams to travel and play football in different parts of the world.
  • We were first team to develop a youth team setup. Newark was the first team to have a youth team in a league (Newham Youth League).

We have been leaders and pioneers for local football teams, showing other teams the way forward and we continue to do so today.  Newark is keen to support players into mainstream football.

We were instrumental in setting up Sporting Bengal which consists of all the best players from the local teams to represent Tower Hamlets at semi-professional level.  Every year Newark has 5-6 players playing in the Sporting Bengal first team; with 2 Newark players playing in the FA Cup in 2005.
