Development of the Organisation and Volunteers

The organisation has gone through major changes during the last two decades. Starting as a loosely run football team, there was no formal management structure. Boss did everything, from coaching to managing to the admin. Now Newark has an elected board of trustees and recently gained charity status. Many of the elected trustees are from the original team or later service users. It has developed many of the policies needed to work with children and to run an organization successfully.

For large part of its history Newark was self funded but in recent years Newark has started fundraising from charitable trusts and foundations and successfully delivered small to medium sized projects.

The volunteers of Newark have also developed over the years by gaining coaching qualifications, referees qualifications, child protection certificates, first aid and youth work qualifications. Majority of Newark volunteers are previous service users and feel they have to give something back to the community.
